JUDO: Wesley Connor's run of good form continued as he won a gold medal at the Samurai Judo Club's Boys Minimon Championships along with new player Richard Baulk.
Samurai star Connor battled his way through to the final of the lightest category at U-28kgs level and then faced a tough battle against a Surrey opponent before scoring twice without reply for his medal.
Baulk achieved his gold in the U-50kgs category, carving up the rest of the opposition to eventually beat club-mate Joel Darch with a superb maximum-point final throw.
However, Darch was pleased with his silver after weighing in at 43kgs but still recording four excellent wins.
In the lower weights, the inexperienced yet keen Daniel Spivery did well to reach the quarter-finals and then the bronze play-offs of the next weight group at U-30kgs.
A new name, Joshua Green, made the semi-finals of the U-34kgs category for yellow belts but went out to a minor score in extra-time in a close clash.
But Green fought back well for bronze, while Charles Woodward and Ross Boyd did well only to just miss out on the final stages.
Lewis Osman-Moore gained more experience and impressed on his way to the U-38kgs semi-final before losing and eventually finishing fifth.
Sam Stone, at just 28kgs, did well in the lightest higher grade category at U-34kgs level.
But Stone was caught in a groundhold in the final against a player he had earlier beaten and ended up with silver.
Matt Hibberd gained good early victories but failed to make it an all-Samurai final after over-confidence in his semi left him with bronze.
Karl Gaughan enjoyed several wins in the U-38kgs category for bronze, while Edward Acutt worked hard in the open category but did not qualify through the pool stage.
