POLICE dogs were called out on a hunt for a driver who was spotted running away from the scene after crashing a stolen car.
Firefighters were called to Sion Hill in Kidderminster at 6.20pm on Sunday to find a Volkswagen Golf being driven towards Wolverley had collided "heavily" with a tree.
But they found there was no-one in the car - and a passer-by told them they had seen the driver, thought to be a man in his mid-20s, running away across nearby fields.
A check revealed the car had been reported stolen two weeks previously and a search was launched for the driver.
A fire brigade spokesman said the car had hit the tree "very heavily" on the driver's side, bending the steering wheel. People in Springfield Park said they had seen a man come past with blood on his arm, but the driver was not traced.
