A WOMAN accused of driving her car at a former boyfriend has been cleared after reaching an agreement with police.
Jenna Everley, 21, of Dunlin Drive, Kidderminster, was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
But prosecutor William Rickarby said after a meeting with police she was informed she would not be prosecuted and he told Worcester Crown Court that in those circumstances the Crown was not prepared to proceed.
He said peace had broken out between the defendant and her ex-boyfriend Nicholas McLoughlin after mutual promises had been made.
Judge Michael Mott asked whether it was "wholly improper" for the police to give the defendant an assurance without consulting the Crown Prosecution Service. Mr Rickarby said the problem was being addressed.
