SO the traffic-calming scheme which would have provided safe routes for children to walk to St Anne's school has now been scrapped.
Your lead article in the issue of June 27 says that measures targeted at key crossing points are now likely to be funded by the county council.
What has changed? We have consistently been told that there was no county council money available for this scheme in Bewdley - it was a direct Government grant or nothing. Your article doesn't clearly state whether Frank Baillie, Bewdley's county councillor, has promised this or not. If he has, then why couldn't the money have been promised 18 months ago?
If the original scheme had been implemented, it would have been in place by June 2002. We are now into July and there is nothing at all in place. We are on borrowed time. How long do we have to wait with our fingers crossed before a scheme is delivered?
