WORKERS had to be evacuated from a chemical store in Pershore after a drum of dilute nitric acid split.
They were removed from the store for about two hours while firefighters from Pershore and Droitwich, including an environmental protection unit from Evesham, were called to the spillage at Schloetter Co. Ltd in New Road, which happened at about 11.25am last Thursday (July 4).
They cordoned off the store, while six firefighters in chemical suits treated the spillage with water and drained it into a catchment tank, situated beneath the store.
Company secretary Richard Whatcott said an internal investigation was now underway to find out how the drum split.
He added: "About 20 or 25 workers were evacuated from the chemical store and nearby offices.
"The incident was contained by our safety people who contacted the fire brigade, but there was never any danger to the local community or staff."
