TWO caring children have been recognised for their kind-hearted community work.
Lewis Thresh, nine, of Franche First School, and Madeleine Lown, 15, of King Charles I High School, both in Kidderminster, have received Good Citizen awards from West Mercia Police.
They were among 43 county winners honoured for their outstanding community service.
Madeleine received her accolade for her yearly fund-raising efforts.
She has organised annual Christmas carol jaunts for charity and this year donated £163 to a fund close to her year head Rob Bourdon-Pierre's heart.
He was at Shenstone Teacher Training College 20 years ago with Chris Penny whose wife Julie died of leukaemia in April.
Mr Penny has since set up the Julie Penny Trust to raise funds for leukaemia research.
Mr Bourdon-Pierre, who nominated Madeleine, said: "She is a very nice and caring girl. The nomination was not only for this year's work but all the fund-raising she has done in the past.
"She has the initiative to go out and do something for others, which is a very positive quality."
Meanwhile, Lewis gave his mobile phone to a friend of his mother after she was attacked and mugged in Kidderminster.
Headteacher Val Weddell-Hall said: "Lewis thought it would help - he wanted to cheer her up.
"It was a lovely thing to do. It is typical of Lewis, he is always willing to help. We are very proud of him."
