A DISQUALIFIED driver from Worcester who jumped behind the wheel to get to his community punishment session on time has narrowly escaped a jail sentence.
Abdul Hamid, aged 24, was caught by police as he drove down The Tything, Worcester Magistrates Court heard yesterday.
Hamid, who has been caught driving while disqualified five times in 18 months, claimed he had driven to his appointment because he was late.
Disqualified
He was stopped at 9am on Saturday, June 15, and admitted to the police that he was a disqualified driver.
Hamid, of Avon Road, Tolladine, admitted driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and having no MOT certificate.
Magistrates gave him a 12-month rehabilitation order, 100 hours' community punishment and an 18-month driving ban.
They also fined him £360 with £55 costs.
