GIRL Guides in Droitwich are launching an ambitious campaign to raise £100,000 to save their meeting place.
The Guides, who meet at their headquarters in Acre Lane, are urging people to help them with their mammoth task by supporting their fundraising efforts.
More than 250 youngsters from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers meet at the building every week, which means it is being used nearly every night.
The 30-year-old building is in desperate need of repair but the Droitwich Guide Association is unsure whether it can be refurbished or if it needs totally rebuilding.
A campaign was launched almost two years ago to raise £50,000, but the Guides received a recent blow when they found out the target had doubled.
Undeterred, the girls have thrown themselves into the project and have managed to raise £14,000 through their efforts and the support of the public.
Tin foil and drinks cans have been collected to exchange for money, a sponsored swim was held and nearly £1,000 was raised during a recent bag packing event at Safeway in the town.
"We have been overwhelmed by the support of the people of Droitwich Spa and can't thank them enough," said district commissioner Jane McHugh.
"If you can volunteer your support in any way whatsoever, we would love to hear from you.
"We are a registered charity ourselves and regularly fundraise for others, so find it difficult to ask for our own needs."
