BARNARDS Green visited Old Elizabethans in a Worcs Sunday League Division One game.

OLD ELIZABETHANS v BARNARDS GREEN SUNDAY

Skipper Kevin Ratcliffe lost the toss and the Green were asked to field. They made an excellent start with Tim Williams getting some unexpected lift from the wicket and claiming two wickets including the dangerous Steve May for 33.

At the other end Chris Hill was extracting turn and bounce and bowled his nine overs taking three wickets for a miserly 15 runs. Chris Dale (53) began the repair job for OEs receiving support from S Emson (25). Andy Lamb 1-22 from nine overs and Dick Brown 2-34 bowled well to restrict Old Elizabethans to 186.

In reply Green got off to a poor start losing Rich Williams and Brian Hancock to the medium pace of Mark Groves. Kevin Golder and Tim Clarke added valuable runs to build the innings but the Green looked in a little trouble at 73-4.

Tim Williams and Kevin Ratcliffe put together a stand of 86 in 19 overs before both were dismissed for 35 and 49 respectively. Chris Hill (13no) and Dick Brown (11no) saw the Green home with 13 balls left.

BARNARDS GREEN II v OLD ELIZABETHANS II

GREEN Seconds entertained OE's Seconds in the Sunday league.

Electing to bat first, OEs found runs difficult to come by thanks to a tight opening spell from Jamie Longmore and leg spinner Justin McMillan.

Stanton soon got frustrated and was yorked by Longmore for five. Blakeway and Boyle then nurtured the innings before the introduction of late replacement Paul Knapper brought instant success and he removed Boyle and Norton.

Just as Blakeway (40) appeared to be starting to dominate, Roy Mayo took an excellent slip catch off Knapper and an equally good catch by Marek Wajzer brought Knapper (4-24) his fourth wicket.

Robbie Tyler had Dorr caught at long off and when Kelvin Beeching threatened to take the bowling to task, the introduction of Wajzer and Marc Jones saw the tail fold and OEs were all out for 152.

The Green's reply was cautious but determined with Roy Mayo hitting a huge six over long on, but soon after mistimed a similar shot and was caught at mid off.

Marc Jones departed without troubling the scorer and Mat Brookes had a rush of blood and charged down the track only to miss the ball and get himself stumped.

This brought the young Tim Price and the more mature John Wheeler to the crease and it was Price who was to be the match winner with a superb 77no. After Wheeler had departed, having steadied the ship, Justin McMillan (13) and Marek Wajzer (14) proved able allies.

With 40 runs still required, Jamie Longmore (13no) joined Tim and these two completed the victory by four wickets with 10 overs to spare.
