THE annual general meeting of the Malvern Table Tennis League, sponsored by Whatley Recordon, Solicitors, was held at the Vaughan Hall, Manor Park recently.
The secretary, Cicely Palmer, reported on a year in which the Malvern League had bucked the national trend and actually increased not only the number of teams but also the number of players.
The four new junior teams entered in the third division had accounted for themselves well and the A team had won their division quite easily with the B team coming in third position. One junior player had actually been asked to play up in the first division with great success.
The treasurer, Alan Forsdike, reported on a year showing profit even though the league had bought a new table and net. This was a great improvement on last year when a loss had resulted.
Alan thanked all the league's sponsors and was particularly pleased to say that Whatley Recordon had generously agreed to continue their sponsorship for next season.
The league fees will be increased inline with inflation, which would put them up by 30p to £27 per team.
The coaching sessions had continued well and young players were entering competitions at County and National level with some very gratifying results, which have been reported previously in the Gazette & Reporter.
It was with regret that the resignations of David and Audrey Huntley, who had served on the committee for several years, was accepted. David had been both divisional and tournament secretary and Audrey the minutes secretary as well as provider of delicious food for presentation nights.
The officers and committee of the league apart from these two were all re-elected and Stan Ginn agreed to be minute secretary. Bill Smith and Ted Cates agreed to join the committee.
The president, Graham Collier closed the meeting with thanks to everyone who had worked hard throughout the year to make it the successful and happy league it is and particularly thanked players in the third division who had made the new young players so welcome.
All teams are reminded that entries must reach the secretary by July 27 and anyone who would either like to enter a team for next season or who would be interested in playing table tennis at any level should contact the league secretary Cicely Palmer on (01684) 540595.
