MALVERN entertained Oldswinford in Saturday's Worcestershire Cricket League Division Two encounter and emerged with a winning draw after a good solid performance.
MALVERN v OLDSWINFORD
Malvern enjoyed an excellent start thanks to a brilliant opening stand of 122 between Jeremy Lee and Paul Young.
On a damp wicket, runs were hard to come by but after the opening ten overs had been negotiated safely, both batsmen played some delightful shots, the highlight being Lee's pull for six over mid wicket.
Oldswinford finally made the breakthrough when Turner dismissed Lee for an excellent 64. There was a mid-innings wobble and when Young departed for a superb 65, the innings was in the balance.
However, Sam Peachey and skipper Steven Carter scored useful runs in the middle overs and Mark Baugh hit an aggressive 26 not out at the end to push Malvern to a very respectable 246-9.
Malvern enjoyed a dream start when Rob Francis captured two wickets in the opening over. Law looked in ominously good form but the introduction of Gordon Hawker immediately paid dividends when Law was caught at point for a hard hit 30.
Francis continued to bowl superbly and Hawker was bowling the perfect length and line, giving nothing away. Brigdale hit out to score 69 and Stanier scored a creditable 27 but Malvern were in complete control. Malvern, however, were just unable to force the win that would have shot them up the table.
Still, a very creditable performance with Steven Carter, the stand in skipper, doing a fine job.
