SPEAKING as a theology graduate, I am not convinced that the Christian religion does obligate rich countries to support the citizens of poorer countries as L Spiteri believes (You Say, July 4).
I believe that God has delegated the responsibility of caring for nations to their governments. Christians either individually or collectively should provide assistance where the circumstances permit.
If the British government can provide for refugees without severely disadvantaging the British people, it may do so. The question must be asked as to whether there is a better alternative to the proposed Throckmorton Asylum Centre.
From what I have heard and read, it sounds a bad idea. Perhaps Peter Luff's floating holding tanks are worth a try.
