Some of the fastest accelerating cars in the UK are heading to Worcestershire next month.

The British Hill Climb Championship will be headlining the next Shelsley Walsh hill climb on August 17 and 18.

The narrow course may be short, but is bursting with speed, excitement and energy.

The Shuttle/Times and News has joined forces with the Midland Automobile Club to offer readers the chance to win one of five pairs of tickets and programmes to the event.

One winner will also recieve a copy of the MAC100 book marking 100 years of the historic venue, and take to the course themselves as they are driven up the track on the course car.

The weekend is set to offer Speed Hill Climbing at its very best with the British championship coming to a head as leaders have lost points, and underdogs have taken wins.

Graeme Wight jnr sped to a brand new record in June and was the first ever driver to climb Shelsley in under 25 seconds with a 24.85 seconds.

Wight jnr also set a blistering 129mph record at the approach to the 90 degree Ess, only to discover he was too fast to make the corner.

Scrabbling for grip, nearly hitting the bank on the outside of the corner, he did enough to qualify for the run-off in which he took the outright record.

All of the top contenders will be returning to Shelsley and there will be the much talked about big screen TV in the paddock showing all of the action up the hill.

Ferrari will also be celebrated with a special class set aside for racing cars with the magical 212 European Hill Climb car driven by David Franklin.

The wail of the unsilenced flat 12 over the Teme Valley was a high point for many - and will be returning.

Action sees practice on August 17 and class runs on Sunday at 9.45am.

Entry is £10 to include car parking, seating and paddock entrance. For further details call 01886 812211 or visit www.shelsley-walsh.co.uk

Closing date: Friday August 9, 2002
