A MAN from Pershore was caught driving while disqualified - a week before his ban was due to end.

Gary Biddle, aged 19, was stopped by police while driving his Rover car in the Lower Moor area, near Pershore, on Wednesday, April 3.

Peter Parsons, prosecuting, said Biddle, of the Old Piggery, Upper Sudbury Road, Pinvin, near Pershore, had been banned from driving for two years on April 12, 2000.

He said he also had no insurance because of the ban, and had twice failed to surrender to bail.

At Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday, Biddle admitted driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and two counts of failing to surrender to bail.

Louise Hooker, defending, said Biddle thought his ban had run out in March. "There was no deliberate attempt to break the law," she said.

She pointed out that he had spent several weeks in custody already and was keen to be reunited with his girlfriend and their new-born child.

Magistrates sentenced Biddle to three months in prison and imposed six points on his driving licence.
