A WOMAN who rowed for months alone across the Atlantic has given a talk to raise money for St Richard's Hospice.
For three-and-a-half months Debra Veal struggled with 30-foot waves, force eight squalls, sharks and tankers that came too close.
The 26-year-old set off, along with 32 other boats, from Tenerife in October and completed the race in January.
Mrs Veal was awarded an MBE in the Birthday Honours and has just completed the longest canoe race in the world in Canada.
"St Richard's are jolly lucky to have her come and talk," said Sonia Woolvern, who helped organised the event.
"I know Debra because she is on the Great British Dragon Boat racing team with my daughter."
Mrs Veal spoke to a sell-out audience at the Evesham Rowing Club.
