TWO Bromsgrove School staff head off to Manchester next week in readiness for the start of the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
Craig Parnham and Dr Margaret Werrett, from the Worcester Road school, are both playing their own special role at the two-week event, which starts on Thursday, July 25.
Parnham, hockey coach at the school, has been named in the England men's hockey 16-man squad while chemistry teacher Dr Werrett has been selected as a track official.
Parnham is aiming to help England improve on their bronze medal at the last Commonwealth Games, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1998.
Dr Werrett took up officiating in the early 1980s before becoming the first woman starter in Scotland.
She said: "I am one of very few women starters in the whole of Great Britain and I am currently the most senior lady starter/marksman."
In an illustrious career, Dr Werrett has acted as a marksman at the European Youth Olympics in 1995 and the European Cup Final in 2000. She was also a starter at the 1998 World Disabled Games and the World Veterans Championships in 1999.
