A BROMSGROVE runner has excelled himself by beating his own 200m record during his debut at the English Schools Championship.
Fourteen-year-old Daniel Fagan, a member of Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletic Club, qualified for the second round of the U14s event in Nottingham at the weekend with a first round time of 23.69 secs, a new club record.
The South Bromsgrove High School pupil held the record himself after completing the distance in under 24 seconds for the first time in club's history by breaking Andrew Nock's 15-year-old record in May.
He then ran sub-24 seconds again in his second round heat with a time of 23.82 secs.
Unfortuntely, despite his achievement, Daniel's time was not fast enough to take him further in the competition.
Yvonne Priestman, from Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletics Club, said: "He's had a superb year and it was his first attempt.
"He's won so many races this year in the league he's competed in and in county and school competition - it's tremendous."
