ANOTHER hectic midweek match scene started on Tuesday with Northfield Starlets veterans fishing their contest at Moorlands Farm's Meadow pool.
Harold Willey (Kidderminster) pole fished pellets at peg six for a level 50-0-0 of Carp. Second place went to Dennis Heath (Northfield) with 35-15-0 and third was Eric Pulfer (Kings Norton) with 33-5-0.
On Tuesday, the Woodlands View affordable open was topped by Mark Tooze (Lifestyle) with a pole and meat catch of 54-14-0 from Arles pool peg 28. Dave Boyle (Woodlands) followed with 48-2-0 and third went to Ian Shepherd (Pershore), taking 40-4-0.
Astwood Fisheries' Wednesday Bluebell pool open was won by Mark Burns (Stevens Tackle) with a waggler and worm catch of 50-11-0 from peg seven. Second, John Halfpenny (Astwood), took 39-12-0 and Brian Williams (Astwood) was third with 28-5-0.
At Lodge Park, in Redditch, the evening open was headed by Mick Stephens (CSM) with a running method feeder Carp catch of 35-4-0 from peg four. Runner-up Lee Davenport (LPAA) had 23-5-0; third was Mal Crooke (LPAA) with 21-2-0.
The Tackle Dealers open, held at Woodlands View's Deans pool, saw Charford matchman Al Lees (Midland Bears) have a comfortable victory by pole fishing red meat at peg 36 for 55-3-0. Second was Bill Wells' (Northfield) 35-6-0; third went to Mick Hands (Midland Bears), taking 35-0-0.
On Thursday at Woodlands View, the British Disabled Qualifier for the disabled championships saw the top five make it through to the September final headed by Mark Tooze from Manchester. He pole fished strawberry meat at Arles pool peg 31 for a 44-6-0 catch.
Keith Chambers (Shirley) took 31-8-0 for second while third went to Ian Mearns (Manchester) with 29-12-0; fourth was Ian Govan (Wigan), with 27-5-0 and fifth was Al Lees' (Midland Bears) 24-3-0.
The KH Veterans held their Thursday event at Barbourne pool, in Cotheridge, where Stan James (Bewdley) showed the way by pole fishing casters and maggots at peg 17 for 36-2-0. Roy Dugmore (Northfield) was second with 24-0-0 and third went to Brian Hill's (Stourport) 23-10-0.
On Friday, the Midland Bears Disabled Club were at Woodlands View's Deans pool where Mick Hands (Northfield) took the top honours by pole fishing corn at peg three for 26-1-0. Second was Keith Chambers (Shirley) with 20-3-0 and Vic Cutts (Kings Heath) was third, taking 13-5-0.
Also at Woodlands View, the afternoon open was held on Deans pool with a ton up catch going to Klaus Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco) taking 107-6-0 with pole corn and meat from peg 59. Second placed Rob Brennan (Map Starlets) had 62-1-0; third was Tony Ainsworth (Mid City) with 60-0-0.
On Saturday, the sell-out Embassy pairs qualifier was held at Woodlands View with 96 hopefuls competing and Klaus Fix (Tek Neek Trubucco) did the double with the only ton-up catch of 101-5-0 taken with pole corn and meat from peg 37 on Deans pool.
Phil Ringer (Ringer Baits) took second place with 95-0-8 from Ghost pool peg one while Grant Albutt (Milo) took 89-2-0 for third. Pairs qualifiers are Klaus Fix and Darren Cox (Map Starlets) with a 98 points tally.
Lucas College Road AC fished their North Star Trophy event at BAA Walcot Lake, in Shropshire, and it was Tench that featured in the top catches headed by Erdington hot rod Paul Amos.
He was pegged close to the access where he pole fished paste for three fish scaling in at 11-12-0. Second was Derek Willis' 11-0-0; third was Ron Allen with 4-1-0.
At Moorlands Farm, the Island and Middle pools open saw Darren Clewley (Wesson) just miss the ton with a 93-13-0 pole and corn catch from peg 21. Team mate Ian Whitehouse took second place with 54-7-0 and third was Darren Lamble (Chester) who took 47-6-0.
The evening Meadow pool open was won by David James (Lifestyle) with a pole and meat catch of 95-12-0 from peg 42. Second, Steve Watson (Moorlands), had 68-14-0 while third went to Steve Pearce Junior (Moorlands) with 67-6-0.
On Sunday, the third round of the Birmingham Civil Service Summer League was held on the Grand Union canal Lawns Section, in Knowle.
Yours truly Tony Brunn took first place with a pole and pinkie mixed catch of 2-4-10 from peg 95. Second was Gary Goodman (Shirley) with 1-4-2 and Gary Booth (Catshill) took 1-2-8 for third.
King's Norton AS fished their third aggregate contest at BAA Pensham on the River Avon where Sheldon matchman Wayne Wetherstone took the only double figure weight, 11-13-8 of Chub, taken with waggler and casters from the bottom peg of Meadow one.
From the next peg upstream, Dave Rayner fished in similar style for a second placed 7-3-0; third was John Swain's 2-12-0.
The Birmingham Fire Brigade AC were on the Welford-on-Avon Club waters below the weir for their second Bye contest where Rick Haynes (Barnt Green) stick and waggler fished casters at peg 51 for 5-12-8 of small mixed fish.
Second saw Stan Potts take 4-4-0 while third was Steve Marke's 2-13-8.
The Alvechurch Fisheries Horseshoe pool open was topped by Scott Foxall (CSM) with 46-0-0 taken with pole corn and meat from peg six. Second, Mark Bradley (CSM), had 41-0-0 while Alan Shaw (Birmingham) took 38-0-0 for third.
Astwood Fisheries' Smokey Joe's pool open gave regular visitor Brian Williams (Astwood) a close victory. He pole fished corn and worms at peg 41 for a mixed 24-3-0 catch.
Runner-up, Paul Hanford (Weoley Castle), had 21-0-0 and third was Harry Taylor (Astwood) with 12-14-0.
The Furnace Mill Mucky Meadow pool open was won by Bewdley matchman Paul Evans (Storey's) by pole fishing casters at peg 42 for 72-6-0. Second was Paul Cook's (Marks Tackle) 68-8-0 and third was Tony Delves (Ovation Leisure) with 57-4-0.
Big catches were recorded at the Woodlands View open and Ian Lockley (Map Starlets) showed the way with a 123-4-0 Carp haul pole fished with strawberry meat from Deans pool peg 64.
Lee Richards (Lifestyle) had to settle for second place with 115-3-0 from Arles peg six. Third was Paul Jarram (Diawa Trentmen), taking 103-2-0.
