CHEERFUL chairman Betty Long welcomed members and visitors to the July meeting at the Ladybird Inn. Pat Cornock read the minutes and Pat Mountfield gave the financial report, with Joan English commenting on the highly successful and enjoyable outing to Sudeley Castle. All the members who went on the trip thanked her for her efforts.
Mary Rutter reported that the speakers for next year are now organised up until August and reminded ladies of the time of the annual summer dance at The Granary Restaurant.
Miracles apparently can be arranged as and when necessary, and since the pre-arranged speaker had gone down with a very heavy cold and could not attend, we were extremely lucky to obtain the services of the wife of the Vicar of Catshill, Janet Harding. Mrs Harding has a great sense of humour and referred to her husband as Dick the Vic! This made everyone laugh and she kept us entertained for a whole hour, without any notes at all, telling us about her life from dairymaid to vicar's wife. From the age of leaving school she was quite adamant that she wanted to work with animals, and was able to do just that for many years until she met her future husband who at that time was a banker. After that her attention was turned to people as well as animals. There will be no meeting now until September, and we wish all our members a happy holiday until then.
