A LUCKY Barnt Green teenager is busy saving the pennies after being chosen as one of the Worcestershire Guides to represent the United Kingdom at the Scout World Jamboree in Thailand.
Fourteen-year-old Lucy Hampton, of Linthurst Road, was chosen to take part in the event, where she will be joined by thousands of other youngsters in January 2003.
The Barnt Green Guide unit, which opened in 1921, is delighted with the news and is helping Lucy raise the camp fee of £2,500 to make the a trip of a lifetime.
A spokesperson for the Barnt Green Guide Unit, Val Docherty, said: "So far we have held successful events including a Fun Morning and raffle and are planning more events between now and December 2002.
"Lucy is also busy earning money towards this fee by babysitting, car washing and doing housework."
The UK fee for this camp is high as some is donated to Scouts and Guides from Third World countries to attend the major event.
"Lucy is thrilled to represent the county but more importantly being a teenager representing Barnt Green.
"She is enchanted to have the opportunity of going with the bonus that part of the monies earned will help another enthusiastic Guide attend this world event," Val added.
