DROITWICH'S carnival will make a comeback next year thanks to the support of local businesses and residents.
Last week The Advertiser exclusively revealed that plans were in the pipeline to resurrect the annual event, which folded six years ago.
And thanks to the interest of several businesses and people in the town, a carnival committee looks set to be formed by the end of the month.
Droitwich Mayor, Terry Spencer, aired his interest in bringing the event back to the town calendar after uncertainty surrounded the future of the Not The Donkey Derby day.
Following last week's article, a number of people contacted him, including the last carnival queen, to offer their support.
"I have been amazed by the amount of interest I have had from people who want to take part," he said.
"Once the committee is running, we can really begin to get things rolling and start contacting businesses, schools and organisations to really make it a community event.
"I am considering making it a two-day festival because of the high number of people willing to support it."
He added: "The whole thing has been very positive so far and if people continue to be so supportive, I don't see why the carnival couldn't be an annual event which would run for the foreseeable future."
