THIS summer, Worcester's Chapter Meadow will be hosting a recruitment day for the new generation of rangers.

Budding rangers are being invited to go along to the Meadows on Saturday, August 3, between 12.30pm and 3.30pm to complete the challenges, which could lead to becoming a certified Young Ranger.

All the activities are fun and family orientated. They will test the prospective ranger on different aspects of the job, including animal handling, creating wildlife reserves and fulfilling a nature quest.

On completing the tasks, each of the new-ly-qualified Young Rangers will be awarded a certificate.

Rangers from Worcester City Council, BTCV, the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust, Worcestershire County Council and Worcestershire Wildlife Trust will host the various challenges.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day and there will be ample parking at Christopher Whitehead School.

Chapter Meadows, off Slingpool Walk, St John's, is owned by the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust, which runs events each year to promote them and the work carried out during the year.

Next month's event will be the third to have been held. Previous ones have included a special mediaeval day and another entitled Travelling Through History.

"This year we are focusing on developing the skills of the next generation of Rangers through a series of activities, puzzles, and quizzes," said Warwick Neale, conservation officer with Worcester City Council.

Open to children of all ages, the event promises to be a fun afternoon in a fine rural setting. Parents need to be on hand to assist their children and, while there, are being invited to take part.
