WATCHING the Queen's Jubilee Baton Run as it passed through Worcester today was
13-year-old Sarah Leadbetter, a Nunnery Wood High School pupil.
Sarah was watching with special interest because she is due to carry the baton at the City of Manchester Stadium next Thursday, at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.
She was named in February as the winner of a Blue Peter competition for someone to carry the baton into the stadium.
"We are going there on Tuesday for a dress rehearsal," said Sarah's father Paul.
"It seems now that she will not carry the baton into the stadium after all. It seems there are other plans for getting the baton into the stadium and she is being considered more as part of the opening ceremony.
"We won't know until we get there."
