PEOPLE in Caunsall and Cookley are still suffering water torture as investigations continue into the foul-tasting fluid.

The Shuttle/Times and News revealed last week villagers had stopped drinking tap water because of contamination fears.

Severn Trent Water said the source for the area had been changed and there had been problems with chlorinator machines at Frankley Treatment Works, Birmingham, which meant chlorine flow into the water had been irregular.

Spokesman Caroline Hosie said it was still carrying out an investigation into the problem.

Caunsall parish councillor Carole Lewis said she had been inundated with complaints about the tap water since the story last week.

She said: "More and more people are commenting about the foul taste and are buying bottled water instead."

George Cartwright, of Gaymore Road, Cookley, said it was like skimmed milk pouring from his tap.

He said: "I did what Severn Trent recommended and left it in a jug for 24 hours but it did not clear up.

"It was the colour of milk and it left an eighth of an inch of white powder at the bottom of the glass.

"It smelt like old rags."
