Mike Crump of the Dvorak Society began by explaining the title of his programme - God's Warriors.
He had chosen music with a common theme, part of a 13th century Hussite hymn tune entitled Ye who are God's Warriors.
Throughout the programme Mr Crump played short extracts on a keyboard, pointing out the various phrases to listen for in the music.
Extracts from Ma Vlast by Smetana were first, Tabor, which depicted a Hussite stronghold, and Blanik, representing a mountain outside Prague.
The finale of Smetana's opera Libuse, featured a vocal version of the hymn, sung by Gabriela Benackova-Capova.
Dvorak's Hussite Overture, written in 1883 was heard played by the Bavarian Radio Orchestra conducted by Kubelik, and the programme ended with Prague, by Josef Suk, son-in-law and pupil of Dvorak.
Tomorrow, Barry Shaw will ask Have You Heard This One? at Holy Innocents Community Hall, Kidderminster, starting at 7.30pm
Visitors are always welcome.
