EVESHAM returned to winning ways with a vengeance after Saturday's eight-wicket Worcester-shire County League win at Feckenham.

The toss saw the home side inserted and they made a steady start with a half-century opening partnership.

Paceman Warren Irvine was then called into the attack and, in tandem with Paul Jones, the duo proved an awesome pairing and Feckenham slumped to 136 all out.

Irvine secured his first five-wicket haul for the club while Jones grabbed 5-53 off 22 overs.

In the aftermath of the previous week's batting collapse, the first division leaders showed their true potential and desire for promotion with a composed display in reply.

Gary Lewis finished unbeaten on 61, Nick Collins chipped in with 34 and Barry Clements was 26 not out when the target was passed within 29 overs.

Defeat for closest rivals Stourport added to Avon Street joy as Evesham moved 12 points clear at the summit.

The club's second team produced one of their best displays of the season only to be denied victory by stubborn Feckenham resistance.

Matt Hutton top scored with 76 in a total of 229-9 and hopes of a home win rose when the openers were soon back in the pavilion.

It got gradually worse for the visitors who slumped to 85-8 until the ninth wicket pair played out the final 20 overs to deny Evesham victory.
