PAR golf proved nowhere near good enough to secure Jeremy Robinson a place in the Open Championship that started at Muirfield this morning.
The Evesham European Tour golfer carded successive 71s at Gullane in Scotland but on two days of low scoring, Robinson was unable to make it a hat-trick of appearances at the Scottish venue.
"The first day (Sunday) was easy and I was two-under after nine holes," the 36-year-old recalled. "But I three-putted twice on the way back and that was the start of my problems on the green."
Robinson was honest enough to admit that his putting was "appalling" but he was more than happy with other aspects of his game.
"I played the best I've done all season from tee to green but the greens were very slow and I never got the pace. I never gave them a chance," he said.
"The course was there for the taking but it turned into a mental thing on Monday. I've just got to keep practising and hope my confidence improves."
Robinson took some solace from his play away from the putting surface that gives him encouragement for forthcoming Tour events.
"There's some hope that I can get something out of the next few tournaments," Robinson admitted.
