DROITWICH golfer John Bickerton has every reason to feel confident when he steps out for his third Open Championship in as many years at Muirfield today (Thursday).
Bickerton, who is due to tee-off at 3.41pm, has qualified automatically as one of the eight highest non-exempted finishers after finishing joint eleventh at the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond last Sunday.
The 32-year-old, yet to make the halfway cut at the famous event, scored a final round one-under-par 70 to leave him on seven under for the event, just five shots behind eventual winner Eduardo Romero.
He was helped on his way with a third round of 67, including an eagle two on the fourteenth hole, and picked up a cool £38,000 for his efforts.
