YOUNG people can look forward to a dramatic summer.

Kidderminster Youth House, part of Worcestershire Youth Services, is putting on three weeks of theatre and musical theatre workshops from July 29 until August 23.

Youth Action Extra funding worth £13,000 from the Government is paying for 2 Big Boots - a youth theatre company based in Bewdley - to offer about 150 people of different age groups the chance to act. Damian Sier and Nicky Felton from Kidderminster Youth House.

At the end of each week a short production will be staged, with a modern version of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing being one of the planned treats.

Youth worker Adrian Jenkinson said: "It's a lot more ambitious than previous years. 2 Big Boots have done productions in Birmingham and Hagley and several in Kidderminster.

"I've seen one of their productions and it was very good. They are contemporary and modern - recently they did a version of A Clockwork Orange.

"The director, Daniel Tyler, improvises very well."

Mr Jenkinson added: "I would suggest that rather than people who have done lots of drama, these sessions are more a taster for people who think they could have a crack at it.

"It will be light-hearted and fun."

And not only could young people at a loose end unearth hidden talents, they will also have discussions with a police officer on the "We Don't Buy Crime" initiative to stem the trade in stolen goods.

The first week, for 11 to 16-year-olds, will focus on theatre while the other two - for 11 to 13-year-olds and youngsters from 14 to 17 respectively - will be musical theatre workshops. The sessions run from 11am until 4pm each day.
