EIGHT Kidderminster bands are taking to the stage for an all-day feast of live music on Sunday in the biggest event ever staged at a popular town venue.
The Boars Head Tap House in Worcester Street is hosting the last - and largest - of three extravaganzas organised by Kidderminster College music industry management student Claire Berry to raise money for Kidderminster Hospital.
Claire was born without an oesophagus and only part of a windpipe and underwent more than 10 years' treatment in London and Birmingham.
But as well as repaying the medical profession the exercise has provided valuable experience for Claire, who is considering band management among her future career options.
She said the previous two events have raised a total of £150 for the rehab unit and A block at the hospital, which Wyre Forest MP Dr Richard Taylor recommended as worthy recipients of the cash.
Claire has not set a target but is hoping Sunday's seven-and-a-half hour marathon will raise as much as possible.
Meg kick off proceedings at 3pm, followed by Superreal and New Artic.Set.
Johnny Casino and the Gamblers are next up followed by Curb, Monkeys Punk and The Amateurs while The Bullfrogs will round the day off, finishing at about 10.30pm.
Tap House co-licensee Andy Hipkiss admitted he is feeling nervous ahead of the big event but is optimistic everything will go according to plan.
He added: "Each band will play for about half an hour or 45 minutes. We will donate 10 per cent of our takings and there will be buckets around for people to throw their loose change into.
"All of the bands are from Kidderminster and all but three of them perform original songs."
In addition, bands who have taken part in the events have donated music to a 14-track CD which will be on sale on Sunday to further boost the coffers.
Claire said: "I have never heard some of the bands play so I am really looking forward to it."
