AN IT trainer will be taking to the streets of London to raise money for a Worcester-based national leukaemia charity
Liz Prowse, will be running for Leukaemia CARE in the British Golden Jubilee 10k open race on Sunday.
The route of the race takes in many of the famous sights of London, including St James's Palace, Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, Big Ben, St Paul's Cathedral and the London Eye.
This year's race is taking place four days before the start of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Therefore, an international presence is expected with over 10,000 runners taking part.
Mrs Prowse, who lives in the Arboretum, became involved with the run after giving IT training to staff at the charity based in Barbourne.
"Whilst training the staff at the charity recently, I happened to mention that I visit the gym regularly and Gill, one of the administrators, immediately suggested that I should take part in the 10k race on behalf of the society," said Mrs Prowse.
"Although I haven't run for many years, I always like to respond to a challenge."
Mrs Prowse will be one of 11 runners participating on behalf of Leukaemia CARE on Sunday, and anyone who would like to support Liz and the society should contact 01905 330003 or call in to 2 Shrubbery Avenue, Worcester.
"The Leukaemia CARE Society exists to provide vital care and support services
to all those who lives are affected by leukaemia and allied blood disorders," said Gill Callow, one of the charity's administrators. "Our work therefore extends to the welfare of families and carers as well as
that of sufferers themselves.
"Our aim is to look after those people who are suffering or affected by
leukaemia and allied blood disorders, quite simply 'supporting a quality
of life'."
