BARNARDS Green Seconds entertained Pershore on the first real sunny Sunday of the year.
BARNARDS GREEN II v PERSHORE II
Having won the toss, skipper Robin Longmore had no second thoughts about batting first and when John Wheeler (39) and Roy Mayo (26) put on 91 for the first wicket in just 16 overs, aided by many extras, a big score looked likely on a glorious track.
Wheeler was the first to depart well caught on the boundary rope and Mayo departed soon after. Marc Jones (21) and Lee Hooper then put on 64 for the third wicket before Jones was bowled and Brookes failed to trouble the scorers. Jamie Longmore (18no) then joined Hooper who played some excellent shots and completed his maiden century before being stumped for 102.
Justin McMillan and Longmore then took the score to 256 off the allotted 45 overs.
Rob Tyler and Emily Price opened the bowling for the Green, Emily unlucky with a caught behind appeal off her first ball. Emily gained her revenge when Taylor eventually lobbed the ball to mid-wicket and walked after McMillan had taken the catch.
Marek Wajzer was introduced to the attack and was bowling well until injury forced him from the field and the Green found themselves fielding with ten men for the rest of the game.
With the heat and super fast outfield this was always going to be a hard task, but when McMillan dismissed Keitley and Brookes in quick succession, the game was finely balanced. Luke Eversham then produced a match winning 52no as some loose deliveries in the later stages saw Pershore home by one wicket with a few balls to spare.
Many thanks to match day sponsor Jim's Fish Bar.
On Sunday the Green II entertain Chaddesley Corbett II.
