ONE of the leaders of a Langland childcare group forced to close last year due to lack of cash and volunteers has helped form a new club.
Playspace Out-of-School Care is being launched with the help of a £30,000 Government grant and organisation by Brenda White, one of the leaders at Langlands Kids' Club, which closed in August .
It opens with a registration and open day on Monday (July 22) in The Octagon, Poolbrook.
Organisers want to see more people send their children there to ensure its survival.
Helen Lewis, chairman of the club's organisational committee, has an eight-year-old son, Luke, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, a mild form of autism.
She paid tribute to the work of Mrs White, who she says helped her son progress tremendously during his time at Langlands Kids' Club, only for him to regress after it had closed.
She said the club's charge of £10 a day during the summer holidays and £5 a day during term, made it worthwhile for parents on low incomes to work.
Mrs Lewis said that moving the venue from St Mary's Church hall, in Sherrard's Green, to The Octagon, in Poolbrook, meant the club has a much wider catchment area.
"It's opened it up to more than just the Langlands estate," she said. "It's available for anyone who can get there."
The club will be open from 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, with an age range of four to 11 years. Children with special needs can be catered for.
As well as offering activities including scooters, parks visits, arts, food, bikes, Lego and modelling, holidays away are also organised.
