Northamptonshire soon lost a wicket after winning the toss and deciding to bat against Worcestershire in their Frizzell County Championship Division Two match which opened at sunny New Road today.

Paceman Alamgir Sheriyar struck in his first over, trapping David Pay-nter leg before for two.

He had opened the visitors innings with Michael Hussey against Andy Bichel and Sheriyar.

Hussey was first to get off the mark followed shortly after by Paynter, whose quick-fire departure brought in Mal Loye as the visitors reached 24-1 after nine overs.
