MALVERN Hills Gymnastics Club ran away with the prizes when they competed in the inaugural West Midlands Gymnastics Competition at Worcester University.

There were four age groups competing on vault, bars, beam and floor and the gymnasts that took part certainly competed at a very high standard.

In the age group 8-9 years Malvern girls beat off the opposition to take first and second place out of 40 entrants. Cheralynn Roe took the gold medal and shield with an excellent first place and Korina Wallace took the second place silver medal.

In the 12+ age group Malvern had three entrants Hannah Webster, Alice Watkins and April Roe. Hannah Webster fought off stiff opposition to be in third medal position all the way through the competition until she was narrowly beaten in the last round.

Finally the 15+ age group walked away with all three places in an impressive display of skill. Gymnasts Bryony Raine took first place gold medal and shield, Amelia Davis took second place silver medal and Toni Dyson was in third place with a bronze.

Head coach Brian Barson said "This is a new competition for the West Midlands and Malvern Hills Gymnasts have set the standard. Our gymnasts really performed to a very high standard, through their hard work and dedication they have made the club proud. Well done to all the gymnasts who took part for Malvern and a big thank you to all the coaches for the time and effort that they put in."
