Top oarsmen at the Royal Grammar School, Worcester made a formidable impression at the Great Britain junior trials in Nottingham.

Seven boys entered the final trials and six of them earned places in various national crews.

Dan Bond was the highest ranked of the six, and was selected to row in the coxed four at the World Championships in Lithuania next month.

Colin Scott won a place in the coxed four for the "Coupe de la Jeunesse" in Portugal.

Also selected for the "Coupe" were Rob Fisher and Richard Stratton, who will form part of the Great Britain eight, while Dominic Whitehurst will compete in the reserve coxless pair.

Nick Baker just missed out on the Great Britain teams, but will take a place in the England eight for the Home Countries International.

Five of these boys have already competed successfully for Great Britain at U16 level last year, but for Whitehurst, it will be his first international vest.

Three of the boys (Scott, Fisher and Stratton) as well as Doug Court, who just missed out on selection, have one more year at junior level, and will be aiming next year for places at the World Championships in Athens.

Coach Rob Gibson was offered the role of coach to the Coupe Four, but turned the invitation down, saying: "I'm delighted that the boys have all fulfilled their ambitions, but I need a holiday... I might just manage a holiday in Portugal!"

Meanwhile RGS old boys Dave Gilbert and Rob Inett have earned senior selections.

Inett will be the single sculler for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, and Gilbert will compete for Great Britain U23s at the World Championships in Seville, Spain in the coxless fours.
