A SPECIAL parade through the centre of Worcester was held by the Royal British Legion to mark the Golden Jubilee.

Nearly 400 representatives of legion branches through the county were joined by high ranking officials for the service at the cathedral.

Dignitaries

Among the dignitaries were British Legion national president Lt Gen Sir Roderick Cordy-Simpson, national vice chairman John Hawthornthwaite, county president Brig Rolph James, Lord Lieutenant Michael Brinton.

The celebrations began with a service at Worcester Cathedral followed by a wreath laying and parade through the centre of town with a salute at the Guildhall.

The procession was led by the RBL and Wyre Forest Youth Band.

"It went extremely well and we were extremely well supported," said Jeff King, organiser and vice-chairman of RBL Worcestershire County.

"Members of the public came out to support us and we are very grateful.

"Very often we have a parade before and after the service, but because of the traffic problems in Worcester and because the police were undermanned we could only get the road closed after.

"We are extremely grateful for the Mayor of Worcester Councillor Robert Rowden for holding a reception for our VIPs."
