AN Evesham man who launched an attack on a security guard, who had earlier thrown him out of a town shopping arcade, has been jailed.

James Liston punched Adrian McArthur and repeatedly pushed his face into a glass window, Worcester Magistrates' Court heard yesterday.

Mike Cowley, prosecuting, said Mr McArthur had been working in the Riverside shopping arcade at around 3pm on Saturday, March 23 and had asked Liston to leave the centre as he had smelled alcohol on his breath.

Later in the day, he left the centre to do some patrols, and noticed Liston was still in the area with another man.

"He was then approached by the defendant who attacked him by punching him in the face," he said.

"The defendant then ran away and Mr McArthur gave chase and caught him in the road.

"He then attacked him again by punching him in the head and grabbing his face, pushing it into a glass window."

Liston, of Princess Road, admitted one count of assault by beating.

The 32-year-old has a string of previous convictions, including a number of assaults.

Dale Sheehan, defending, said Liston was drunk at the time of the attack, and had been affected so badly as it was the first time he had drunk alcohol this year.

"He accepts his behaviour was atrocious, but he had drunk far too much and that was a factor which led to the offences being committed," he said.

Magistrates sent Liston to prison for four months.
