PEOPLE from across the county flocked to an open day at a Worcestershire garden, staged to raise cash for Acorns Children's Hospice Trust.

Bridges Stone Mill garden in Alfrick Pound, near Worcester boasts a huge variety of plants, a courtyard, ponds and streams, belongs to Sir Michael and Lady Perry and has taken 20 years to create.

The garden was thrown open to the public last Sunday, and attracted droves of nature-lovers.

Lady Perry described the two-and-a-half acre plot as "personal" and said it was "based very much on our ideas for colour schemes and planting".

A spokeswoman for Acorns revealed that the event had raised £2,495 for the Three Counties Appeal, which aims to build a new hospice in the city's Bath Road.

"We were delighted that Sir Michael and Lady Perry opened their beautiful garden to support the appeal," said Fran Winterbourn, community fund-raising co-ordinator at the charity.

"The afternoon went exceptionally well, the weather was perfect and over 400 people came along.

"This is a fantastic response."
