FOLLOWING the reported meeting of a 300-strong crowd against the Tesco 24 hour opening, here is a thought.
The last published local voting results (2002) indicated a 31 per cent turn out (2,731). Had this been 100 per cent, the figure would have been 8,809 (approx)
These 300 people equate roughly to 3.41 per cent - does this indicate 96 per cent of the populous of St Peter's are either not interested, in favour or it doesn't matter.
I would not personally shop or, indeed, need to shop during the "wee" hours of the night, therefore do not see a need for Tesco to open all hours.
Clearly we must always accept the majority rule... or must we?
