ALCESTER were knocked out of the Heart of England Cup by the slenderest of margins after a battling quarter final display against champions Tanworth.

Played over a four home, four away basis, the home four put up a great performance against stiff opposition to win by five shots.

Star of the evening was Peter Barber with an excellent 21-14.

The away four showed they meant business with skipper Chris Hollins leading the way with a fine 21-12 and with the other three players fighting for every point, the Alcester contingent lost by just six shots.

But the aggregate scores meant Tanworth took the tie by a point.

John Lee led the way for White Hart over 60s at home to Colebrook with a 21-11 card, closely assisted by Bill Selwood and Ron Taylor (21-14) and Stan Howard (21-17) to give the Harts an 11-shot win.

In the W&W Mixed League White Hart were in fine form at home to Water Orton. On a fast running green, they had seven winners, led by Stan Pritchard and Ged Dooner (21-3) and Keith Knight (21-4) and romped home to an 89-shot victory.

The Warwick & Worcester mixed team met Rubery John Conely at home and found the green to their liking, in spite of heavy rain, and with seven winners won by 59 shots.

Winning cards from Steve Murch (21-2), Bill Radford and David Broome (21-7) and Keith Knight (21-8), with good support from the rest of the team.
