STUDLEY was the focus of a high-profile police operation on Friday night as a new weapon in the fight against crime was launched.

In a bid to tackle street crime, particularly from youths, a "Caught on Camera" CCTV van patrolled the village until the early hours.

Stamping out underage drinking by visiting licensees in the village was another aim of the operation.

Though no arrests were made, police did speak to a number of people and one youngster was taken home to his parents suffering from the effects of alcohol.

In all, 14 officers were involved patrolling the village on foot and in cars.

Insp Tim Bailey said the CCTV van was an effective deterrent to those out to cause trouble.
