REDDITCH representatives of Unison say they are pleased with last week's strike action, despite many council services operating as normal.

The union called for local authority workers to strike as it stepped up action to see a pay rise of at least six per cent.

Although 75-80 per cent of Redditch Unison members opted to strike, the council said there was minimal disruption to services.

Refuse collection rounds were completed, leisure centres were open and only two council buildings were affected.

Warden, personal care and emergency services were all exempt from the strike.

Unison branch secretary Roy Banks said he was pleased with the response from Redditch members.
