DROITWICH Spa first team travelled to Romsley and Hunnington on Saturday for a Worcester Premier League encounter and were unfortunate not to win the game.

Chasing a target of 243 Spa's innings was cut to 36 overs due to rain and they fell 10 runs short.

Romsley got off to a flying start with C.Moore hitting 18 off the first over with all the runs being scored to the minute off side boundary, but two wickets from the returning Mike Rogers slowed things down.

Moore(68) and Hamlet(36) formed a useful partnership of 92, and their innings was further boosted by Gary Pickering's 99 which included nine sixes.

Pickering's innings allowed Romsley to finish on 242-5.

After Stuart Bryan's early dismissal Brent Hawkins and Ian Duggan took on the Romsley attack positively - reaching 130-1 off only 23 overs. Spa looked certain winners but a rain delay meant only another 13 overs were available to reach the 243 target.

Requiring nine runs per over Hawkins and Duggan began impressively taking full advantage of the short boundary. When the skipper was dismissed for 61.

Dave Scott-Walker continued the good work and Spa were close to an unlikely victory.

The loss of Scott-Walker(25) and Nigel Haddock slowed the run rate and after Hawkins (107) registered his maiden hundred Spa fell 10 runs short in what was a thrilling run chase.

Due to their higher run rate Spa achieved a winning draw for 14 points.

Astwood Bank will be the visitors at St'Peter's Field this weekend.

Droitwich Spa's Sunday 1st XI made it three consecutive wins with a six wicket victory over Netherton in the V-Sports International Premier League. Chasing a modest 143, Spa eased to victory inside 37 overs.

Spa's fine run will hopefully continue on Sunday with a trip to Attock.

Droitwich Thirds dodged the rain showers to secure a vital 144 run win against Bournville on Saturday.

An excellent all-round batting display saw Spa amass 233-5 on a lively pitch with half-centuries for Phil Darlison (58) and Alex Barber (61 not out).

Against some accurate bowling, Bournville never looked like surviving - in spite of a shower break - and Alan Breakwell claimed a second successive five-wicket haul and skipper Darlison grabbed four wickets.
