More than 50 members of Lickey WI celebrated the institute's 38th birthday on Tuesday, July 2, at The Old Rose & Crown Hotel, Rednal. The evening began with a brief business meeting, during which an account was given of the recent national interim general meeting.
A successful trip to Herefordshire had taken place in June and names were taken for an outing to Oxford in November. Elaine Pittom was drawn as the fortunate recipient of the Denman Bursary. Runners-up were Sheila Islip and Pat Haddon.
A splendid supper was served followed by entertainment during which members gamely took part in both line and barn dance routines. The competition for the evening was a buttonhole and Maureen Pearmain was the worthy winner with her lovely entry of freesias. An enjoyable evening was had by all.
The August meeting will be held on Tuesday 6, at the usual venue of Lickey Parish Hall when Mike Cartledge will speak about the Acorns Children's Hospice. The competition will be for a wooden ornament.
