MOBILE phone users in the Spa are being urged to be cautious as more than 70 phones have been stolen in Droitwich this year.

West Mercia Constabulary has published a new pamphlet in a bid to cut the number of mobile phones being taken.

The leaflet, which can be picked up from Droitwich Spa Police Station, in Ombersley Street East, outlines the steps townspeople can take to avoid loosing their phone.

These include not leaving them unattended, not using them in a crowded place and not leaving them on display in the car.

West Mercia Constabulary's PC Mike Stephenson said: "The new pamphlet, which is shaped like a mobile phone, outlines some of the ways you can keep your phone safe and ensure that if it is taken it cannot be sold on - ensuring thieves make nothing from their crimes.

"So far this year around 785 mobile phones have been stolen in the Worcester division, 71 of them being in Droitwich.

"However people should not be concerned that this indicates how many phones were stolen as a result of street crime, many have been lost, left unattended or stolen from bags.

"By picking up a new pamphlet from your local police station and taking action, this figure can be greatly reduced," he added.

The leaflets can be picked up from all local police stations and contain a useful card to keep all of the necessary details of your mobile phone.
