AN enjoyable afternoon was spent at the home of member Carol Penver for a tea in aid of Yellow Day for the Primrose Hospice and £125 was raised.

Ten members visited the Brambles residential home in Webheath and two golden rose trees were planted to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.

In August, a summer tea will be held at a member's home in Crumpfields Lane.

At the July meeting, members brought along cakes for the WI cake stall at the Alexandra Hospital Fete.

It was announced that member Lexie Bagnall would carry the baton of the Queen's Jubilee Relay Race at Fernhill Heath.

Speaker for the evening was Joyce Seal, who described the art of patchwork and quilting and showed may techniques and examples of the craft.

She also showed slides of very complicated designs.

The next meeting is on September 5 at the village hall at 7.30pm when Mrs M Cooper will talk of life as a midwife before the NHS.
