BROMSGROVE Rovers' supporters finally have something to celebrate today after the club's promotion to the Dr Martens Western Division was confirmed.

It ends five miserable years for the Victoria Ground club in which they were relegated three times from the Nationwide Conference down to the Midland Alliance.

Rovers, who finished second to Stourbridge this season, were promoted because the Glassboys' Amblecote ground did not meet league requirements.

The Dr Martens League has given the green light to Rovers' promotion subject to conditions -- believed to relate to the ground lease -- which chairman Tom Herbert has agreed to fulfil.

Joint manager Gary Hackett was delighted with the news and said the club was back where it belonged.

"I'm absolutely delighted and it is great news for the club," he said.

"It's been through some hard times and the way it has been going in the last four or five years people didn't even know if there was going to be a club. So it's been a dramatic turnaround and we are back where we belong.

"Next season we would like to push it on and we know what the budget is and we are aiming to compete.

"We don't just want to be a run of the mill side but we have just been promoted so we have to be realistic."

Hackett and fellow manager Jon Ford plan to bring in four or five new players but intend to stay loyal to the squad that got the Victoria Ground club promoted.

"We believe the players are of Dr Martens Premier Division standard, and many have played there before, and for their efforts throughout the season they deserve the opportunity," added Hackett.

"We are looking to add four or five players and we've had them in mind but have had to wait for confirmation of our promotion before we can speak to them."

Rovers' fanatical support, highlighted when more than 1,000 turned up for their clash with Stourbridge, is also set to continue and has been a real asset to the club, according to Hackett.

"We've proved over the last four or five games that if we can achieve success we are going to get the crowds and they've been fantastic," he said.
