BROMSGROVE Rovers' quest for promotion has been boosted by the granting of a new seven-year lease on their Victoria Ground home.

Rovers are confident of returning to the Dr Martens League after one season in the Midland Alliance, and Bromsgrove District Council made their decision this week even though supermarket giants Asda are interested in buying the Victoria Ground site.

Rovers' chairman Tom Herbert said: "We have had no trouble with the council granting us a lease but there is a case going on with Asda."

Council leader Nick Psirides said: "The league's requirements are that the club has security of tenure for the ground, and this we have now done."

Rovers should be promoted even if they finish runners-up in the Alliance. Stourbridge, who need a point tomorrow to clinch the title, cannot go up as their ground does not meet Dr Martens League requirements.
