CHILDREN'S PLAY AREA: At last the new children's play area has been officially opened. The ceremony was performed by all the children of the Toddler Group and the Play Group who, when the signal was given, ran through a ribbon across the gates and into the newly fenced area. The parish council chairman, Mr Derrick Grainger, thanked everyone who had been involved in fund-raising during the past four years, and also the sub-committee of councillors who had seen the project through.

PARISH COUNCIL: Chairman, Mr Derrick Grainger outlined the progress which had been achieved in the demolition of the old football club changing rooms and the clearing and fencing of the site in general. He said that the practice manager of the surgery next door had indicated satisfaction at the completion of work on the joint boundary. Mr Grainger said that there was now a large area outside the rear of the village hall which could, in the fullness of time, be properly landscaped. Mr Grainger and the other councillors involved were warmly thanked for the time they had put in to the project.

County councillor Adrian Hardman reported on the results of a questionnaire he had launched in connection with the provision of a second footpath on the Tewkesbury Road. He said that a majority of people had been against the scheme, and that perhaps the highway authority might be encouraged to improve the existing footpath so that parents with a push chair and toddler could walk safely. Mr Hardman also reported that the Environmental Agency had refused to withdraw its objection to the scheme to make public moorings on the Dock and that the project was now at an end.

Considerable time was spent in consideration of plans submitted to Wychavon to put 12 houses on the site of Bredon Garage. At a previous meeting it had been agreed to seek the professional advice of an architect since the site is very prominent in the village. It was generally agreed that the general design was poor, and in view of the details to be considered, a meeting specifically for planning matters was arranged.

The next full meeting of parish council was fixed for September 9 at 7pm.
